| Jack says, "I am Jack, aged nearly 12 and I have a twin sister called Ellie. My cool older brother is Jamie aged 13. I hate being the youngest. Mum left us Home Alone to go on holiday with her boyfriend. She never told us about the sheriff’s men coming or the social workers. They were going to separate us until dad came to help, so we went to live with him in the countryside. It was great! :) ...... Then I thought my luck had changed when I found two old dinghies. I was great fun exploring the river. Then suddenly, disaster struck. We all capsized and tumbled into the Underworld. With no escape, we ran from Gnome King, but there was nowhere to go until Hadi found us and took us to meet the wise Oracle. He tells us the only way home, is for one of us to complete a difficult and dangerous quest. He is ordered to get up immediately and attend to his master the Oracle at the top of the mountain. Jack is surprised when he arrives that his master and his two imaginary friends are waiting for him. He is ordered to leave with his friends to travel halfway across the Underworld to meet the Oracle’s agent a girl called Mira on the Isle of Vulcanterre. She will lead him to someone called Vulcan who lives in a volcano. His problems start straight away
when the three boys learn they can bring nothing more with them than the
clothes they stand up in. That meant no food to eat, devises, or weapons to defend

cross the desert,
